Description
Here Nikki outlines the process of requesting a commission:
Mixed Media
Many of the mixed media requests, are for a personalised piece for a special person, with an industrial/steampunk feel. In this case I ask the client to write out a list of things relating to the person for whom the piece is being made:
Interests, hobbies, sports
What are they passionate about?
What are their values?
Any little fun quirks or habits?
Any stories or anecdotes
This usually leads to more conversations to delve deeper and understand the most important ideas. I then source or create objects to symbolise those ideas and begin creating the piece.
Fluid Art
Due to the Nature of fluid art, it is not possible to replicate an existing piece or to fully predict the final result. This is why each piece of fluid art is 100% unique. With this in mind, when a fluid art piece is commissioned I will discuss the following with the client:
Colours
General style and composition
size and orientation (landscape/portrait/square)
Once the paint has dried and fully cured (usually a week or two) the painting will be finished with 2-3 coats of gloss or semi-gloss varnish.
