Eco Tour of Ireland Day 9 Part 1

The Burren Perfumery, Carron, Co Clare

The first thing you notice when you arrive at The Burren Perfumery are the beautiful smells wafting through the air and the sense of calm that abounds.

No bombarding shop assistants pushing you to purchase, no loud special offers lambasting your eardrums. Just quiet, fragranced peace – and an absolutely fabulous shade of green that just might take over the world!

First launched over 40 years ago The Burren Perfumery was bought by Sadie Chowen in 2000 (or thereabouts) whereupon she and husband Ralph Doyle decided to give the perfumery a European makeover and introduce a myriad of new products. It worked – The Burren Perfumery recently won the Irish Times Shop of The Year ‘Best Day Out’ Award and it is not hard to see why.

There is an audio visual presentation about the Burren area itself and the staff are always on hand to talk through the perfumes/ soaps/ teas etc.

The workshops are on site allowing the chance to catch a glimpse into the making of soaps and more plus they offer formal and informal events such as herbal or honey workshops which can include advise on making natural cosmetics, beekeeping and more.

There is also a gorgeous cafe on site offering mouth watering delights and great quality coffee and the gardens are nicely laid out to entice one to nibble on a scone or two in their peaceful surrounds.
